1) What this Privacy Policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit or use The Humble List, including when you:

  • browse the website,
  • contribute to appear on a leaderboard,
  • choose an alias or display your real name,
  • (optionally) complete identity verification to earn an Identity Verified badge,
  • view monthly, yearly, and all-time leaderboards.

By using the Service, you consent to this Privacy Policy as permitted by applicable law. Where required, we rely on your cookie/analytics consent choices in addition to this policy.

2) What The Humble List is

The Humble List is an entertainment service that displays public leaderboards. Rankings are based solely on contribution amount and are intended for entertainment purposes only.

Leaderboards include:

  • Monthly Top 10
  • Yearly Top 10
  • All-Time Top 10

Only Top 10 entries appear on each leaderboard.

3) Information we collect

3.1 Information you provide

Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:

  • Alias / display name (required for public display unless you choose your real name)
  • Account information (if you create an account), such as email address and login details
  • Profile preferences (for example, whether you choose to display a real name or an alias)
  • Support and contact form submissions (the information you include when you contact us)

3.2 Public leaderboard information

If you appear on a leaderboard, we may publicly display:

  • your alias or displayed name,
  • your rank (monthly/yearly/all-time),
  • your contribution amount (for that leaderboard period).

If you are not Top 10 for a leaderboard, you typically will not appear on that leaderboard.

3.3 Payment and transaction information (processed by Stripe)

Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive and store limited information needed to operate the Service, such as:

  • contribution amount, currency, date/time,
  • transaction status (successful, refunded, disputed/chargeback),
  • transaction identifiers (for example, customer ID and payment/charge IDs),
  • limited billing/location signals for tax calculation and fraud prevention.

We do not store full payment card numbers. Stripe processes payment details.

3.4 Identity verification information (Stripe Identity)

If you choose to earn the Identity Verified badge, identity verification is provided by Stripe Identity. Stripe Identity may collect and process:

  • images of a government-issued ID,
  • a selfie,
  • and biometric identifiers used to compare the selfie to the ID (for matching).

We generally receive:

  • a verification result/status (for example: passed/failed/pending), and
  • limited metadata needed to operate the badge feature, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of the Service.

We do not need your ID image or selfie to run The Humble List and do not intend to store those materials in our systems unless clearly stated otherwise.

Display rule: If you display the Identity Verified badge, you must display your verified real name. If you use an alias, the badge is not displayed.

3.5 Analytics and session replay (Microsoft Clarity)

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with the Service (e.g., heatmaps and session replay). This may collect:

  • pages visited and navigation patterns,
  • clicks, scrolling behavior, and cursor/mouse movement,
  • device and browser information,
  • approximate location derived from IP or similar signals.

We use consent controls and configuration intended to reduce capture of sensitive data (for example, masking and exclusions where appropriate).

3.6 Technical, security, and log information

We may automatically collect:

  • IP address,
  • device/browser type and settings,
  • timestamps, referring URLs, and page requests,
  • security events, anti-fraud signals, and error logs.

4) How we use information

We use information to:

  • operate the Service and display leaderboards,
  • process transactions and maintain accurate totals,
  • prevent fraud, abuse, and chargeback schemes,
  • enforce Terms (including alias rules and bans),
  • provide customer support and respond to inquiries,
  • improve the Service (including analytics and usability testing),
  • comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

5) How we share information

We do not sell personal information for money. We share information only as needed:

5.1 Service providers

We may share information with vendors who help operate the Service, including:

  • payment processing and dispute handling (Stripe),
  • identity verification (Stripe Identity),
  • analytics/session replay (Microsoft Clarity),
  • hosting, infrastructure, logging, and security vendors.

These providers are permitted to use information only to provide services to us.

5.2 Legal and safety

We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to:

  • comply with law, regulation, subpoena, or valid legal process,
  • investigate or prevent fraud, security incidents, or prohibited activity,
  • protect our rights, users, and the public.

5.3 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to reasonable safeguards.

6) Public display, aliases, and your choices

6.1 Aliases and real names

Aliases are the default. You may choose to display your real name instead. If you choose Identity Verified and want the badge displayed, you must display your verified real name.

Please do not include sensitive personal information in your alias.

6.2 Removal and deletion effects

If you request deletion (or if we remove an alias or ban an account for Terms violations), we may:

  • remove your listing from public display, and/or
  • replace your displayed name with a generic label (e.g., "Deleted User") while preserving leaderboard integrity, accounting records, and anti-fraud protections.

7) Cookies, consent, and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • run core website functionality,
  • protect the Service and reduce fraud,
  • remember preferences (where applicable),
  • enable analytics and session replay (including Microsoft Clarity), subject to your consent choices where required.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect site functionality.

8) Data retention

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for:

  • operating the Service and maintaining leaderboards,
  • fraud prevention and security,
  • handling disputes, chargebacks, and refunds where required by law,
  • meeting legal and accounting requirements.

Retention varies by data type. Transaction records and security logs may be retained longer than general analytics data.

9) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No system is perfectly secure.

10) Children

The Humble List is not intended for children. Paid features require you to be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction).

11) Your privacy rights and how to make requests

Privacy rights vary by location. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we maintain about you, subject to legal exceptions.

All privacy requests must be submitted using our contact form:
Contact Us

When submitting a request, include:

  • the email address associated with your account or transaction (if applicable),
  • what you are requesting (access, deletion, correction),
  • any details that help us locate your information.

To protect you, we may need to verify your request (for example, by confirming control of the relevant email address or transaction details).

12) International visitors

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards.

13) Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Changes take effect when posted unless we state otherwise. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice (for example, by posting a notice on the website). Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the updated Privacy Policy to the extent permitted by law.
