About The Humble List

I don't want to brag, but The Humble List is the most important cultural institution of our time.

It exists for one reason: some people are simply too humble to go unrecognized. What's the point in being humble if nobody knows about it?

Your humility deserves a spotlight.

What is The Humble List?

The Humble List is a public leaderboard where you "prove" you're the humblest by contributing money for placement.

There are three lists:

  • Monthly Top 10
  • Yearly Top 10
  • All-Time Top 10

No prizes. No coupons. No complicated rules. Just the pure, ridiculous honesty of being publicly ranked by the money in your wallet.

Bragging rights only. Because that's the only reward a truly humble person would accept.

The Humble Quiz

Somewhere between a personality test and a gentle interrogation, the Humble Quiz was lovingly engineered to hold up a mirror to your ego. (Don't worry... most mirrors lie a little.)

Each session serves you 5 randomly selected questions from a pool of 100, so you can retake it as many times as you like and convince yourself the next result will be more flattering. Spoiler: it won't be. But you're brave for trying, and that's something.

Your answers are completely anonymous (we record them in aggregate to study humanity's collective delusion). Think of it as citizen science, but for humility. Which, now that we say it out loud, is adorably ironic.

At the end, you'll receive a Humility Rating. Whether you score "Enlightened Soul" or "Aggressively Confident," we assure you it is a profoundly accurate assessment. Mostly.

How the rankings work

Rankings are determined primarily by your contribution amount. Not your charitable impact. Not your moral character. Not how softly you close doors.

Just contribution amount. Mostly.

When two people contribute the same amount, Clout breaks the tie. Even at $0.

The leaderboards

  • Monthly List: Ranked first by contributions this month. But here's the twist — anyone who has ever contributed can appear, with their all-time total acting as the next tiebreaker. So a $1 contribution this month puts you above everyone who sat it out, while past contributors fill the remaining spots based on what they've given historically.
  • All-Time List: Every contribution you've ever made counts, forever.

Each new month is a fresh chance to claim the top — but your history still speaks for you when you're quiet.

Example: one year, a few months

Let's say someone contributes:

  • $3 in January
  • $10 in March
  • $2 in December
  • Year total: $3 + $10 + $2 = $15
  • All-time total: $15 + anything from prior years

Tie-breakers

Monthly leaderboard sort order:

  1. This month's contribution amount (highest first)
  2. All-time contribution total — past generosity is your standing reservation
  3. Highest Clout Score
  4. Whoever made their very first contribution earliest

All-Time leaderboard sort order:

  1. All-time contribution total
  2. Highest Clout Score
  3. Whoever contributed first

Monthly cutoffs use Zulu time (UTC). The humble operate on global time.

Minimum contribution

A single contribution must be at least $1.00.

Accounts are created automatically

When you make your first contribution, an account is automatically created for you. This lets you log in, view history, make additional contributions, collect achievements, and earn Clout.

If you already have an account and contribute while logged in, your new contribution is added to your existing record.

How Clout Works

Clout (Because Being Humble Wasn't Enough)

Clout measures how many people you've inspired to join the list and participate.

Clout increases when someone:

  1. Creates an account using your share link
  2. Makes at least one contribution

Important: You can earn Clout without contributing yourself. Clout is a tie-breaker that determines ranking when contribution amounts are identical (including $0).

Clout is symbolic.

It has no financial value. It cannot be redeemed. It only exists to measure your ability to spread humility.

Share Your Link & Earn Clout

You must be logged in to access your unique share link and earn Clout.

Achievements

There are public achievements listed on the Achievements page, and there are also hidden achievements.

  • Hidden achievements do not appear at first.
  • Once at least one person earns one, it becomes visible for everyone.

Yes, this means someone will get to be first. We won't say who. Probably.

Identity Verified

We offer an optional Identity Verified badge using Stripe Identity.

This is strictly for extra loud emphasis on your conviction to humility.

Eligibility: You must have contributed at least $5.00 to be eligible for identity verification.

  • The badge confirms your displayed real name is yours.
  • To display the badge, you must use your proven identity (real name).
  • If you want to hide the verified badge, use an alias.

Important: Identity Verified is not an endorsement, not a background check, and not proof you are "more humble."

Aliases and community rules

Aliases are the default. A few rules, because the internet:

  • No impersonation
  • No hateful, dangerous, or unacceptable language
  • No scams, fraud, or chargeback games
  • No harassment

We reserve the right to remove listings and ban users for violating the Terms.

Taxes

Sales tax may apply where required and is added at checkout. Leaderboard rankings are calculated before sales tax.

Where the money goes

Contributions help:

  • support and operate the Humble List,
  • fund other projects like this one,
  • and a percentage is used to help combat carbon emissions.

No, this does not make it a charity. It makes it a satire project with a conscience. About 1% of a conscience, but a conscience nonetheless.
